*Que Nicki Minaj's Pill N' Potions*
Not only are pills & powders very helpful, but also very PERSONAL. The following listed are supplements that I have directly consumed & experienced - by no means are they the best, end all be all, or the right thing to do. They work for me! & That is the beauty of wellness - it is not a one-size fits all bodysuit that you grab from H&M - wellness is an intuitive practice. I share this with you in hopes to introduce the idea of supporting your thriving diet with some helpful options! Sadly, I am not a wu-wu witch and cannot provide any potions.
Pills
Probiotics
Read why I pop them everyday, twice a day here.
I take this first thing in the morning to help jump start my energy levels. B12 is naturally found in animal products - such as eggs & meat.
Multi-vitamin
Extra points if they're in the shape of gummy bears.
As being dairy free - calcium is difficult to find in my daily diet. If pills aren't your thing, check out a list of calcium-rich food sources here for strong bones.
Vitamin D
Calcium & Vitamin D go together like peanut butter & jelly. Calcium is best absorbed in your body with the help of vitamin D AND beat the seasonal winter blues with the correct usage.
Biotin helps nurture strong nails, skin health and hair growth.
Vitamin C
I swear my everyday boost of vitamin C was the main reason I survived cold season in college.
Aka brain pills.
Iron
Do you suffer from a meat deficient diet? Next time you're brave enough to get a blood test done at your doctors - request an blood cell count. When I found out that my red blood cell count was low & I was classified as anemic - I turned to iron supplements & vitamin rich food. Foods with high iron include: shellfish, spinach, legumes, & pumpkin seeds.
Hangover cure 101.
A great post-workout pill that helps with muscle tension & relaxation, anxiety & even sleep.
Powders
Collagen
Read why I am the collagen cheerleader here.
Pea protein
If you're like me, you struggle to eat a sufficient amount of protein. Mix this plant-based powder into pre-workout smoothies/shakes, oatmeal, pancakes, chia bowls, yogurt, the list goes on! There is now no excuse to not bang out 22 grams of protein with brands like Naked, Vega & Garden of Life.
Always wonder how instagram-worthy blue acai bowls are made? Spirulina is my go-to super-super food packed with 6 grams of protein & liver cleansing powers. A teaspoon into your AM smoothie goes a long way!
Peanut Powder
Peanut butter is my ultimate weakness. I embarrassingly go through 3 jars a week. However -peanut butter powder provides the oh-so yummy nutty flavor to smoothies, oatmeal, baking, shakes, chia pudding without the high fat caloric density. Watch out for added sugar culprits like PB2 - check out all natural versions such as Hoosier Farms or Naked. Even though nothing beats a fresh jar of Teddie's.
Hello hormone balance. Like your coffee with a bit of sweet? Mix maca powder in for a sweet yet nutty flavor to start your day off right.
Matcha
Coffee who? Matcha is just as strong & much cooler with antioxidants. Buh-bye AM jitters.
My mid afternoon pick me up! Mix in cinnamon & hot nut milk for a warm treat.
Angst be gone! Ashwagandha is a complete mind & body settler that fights any case of Sunday scaries or deadline dooms. My favorite is to make Ashwagandha hot cocoa by mixing nut milk, cacao powder, cinnamon, honey & two scoops of powder - perfect as a night cap drink.
Okay. I will be honest. I have yet to try Reishi - but I am dying too. Lets just say my powder cabinet is at its maximum & will have to wait for my next supplement drought to buy some. Why am I so interested? Check out Four Sigmatic's mushroom coffee line to get the full effect of why Reishi is an elixir.
